The State of Solar Charging Before Advent

Now that I have kept up the solar charging challenge for several months, it is time for an update. In summer it was no problem to keep the power bank full: lots of hours of sunshine and the high position of the sun made it easy. The panel simply lay outside on the balcony table, and in the evening the power bank was brought in to charge and the next morning driven back out to its sunny pasture. Always enough juice, phone use almost back to the level from before the challenge. During the summer holidays a new phone arrived in the family, this time one with inductive charging. I wanted to test it straight away, since inductive charging causes more losses per se than charging with a cable. According to the manufacturer the efficiency is about 60% (so on top of everything I had already calculated, you lose another 40%) (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qi_(standard)).

This is also reflected in solar country. Through the late summer I managed to get by with inductive charging, but for about three weeks now I have had to switch back to the cable, because the combination of fewer hours of sunshine and the loss through induction is no longer enough for me.

For those who are interested I have linked my equipment below. I don't earn anything from Amazon, that's just where I got it from…

As soon as Advent begins I will do another winter update.
