In the course of taking part in various seminars and lectures on sustainability, I kept coming across the subject of the smartphone, and I realised that a smartphone is an interesting object in terms of sustainable development. Its manufacture is probably to be judged as rather critical, it uses electricity, it requires a complex infrastructure whose installation and consumption are hard to measure, and ultimately it also strongly influences our everyday lives.
Since I am also a passionate user of my phone, I wanted to see how I could change my behaviour here in the interest of sustainability. After some attempts with less, less often, more activities without it and much else, I came to the conclusion that none of that works. If something is to change, it has to have direct consequences. So the idea: the thing will only be charged from a solar panel. Since I now often charge it overnight, from a solar-powered power bank.
This should lead to me producing only my own electricity, and if I use too much, I have to take a break until the power bank is full again. That is the idea.
I will keep reporting, both on the success and on the fringes, such as the sustainability of the power bank and the positive and negative influences of the smartphone on us and on our use of resources.
